Southampton Football Cub can today confirm the latest intake of youngsters, with 11 players signing two-year scholarships with the club.

The group of 16 year-olds were welcomed to the club by Academy Manager Matt Hale, with their parents alongside them as they committed themselves to the club for the next two years.

Coming from a variety of different backgrounds, with some having spent a number of years with the club and others having arrived ahead of the 2015/16 campaign, the 11 youngsters will be looking to make their mark in the Under-18s this season.

Speaking about the positive news, Hale said: "They have all thoroughly deserved their achievements so far in getting a scholarship. A lot of players and boys around the country don't achieve that. The next step now is to try and get a professional contract.

"They know what is expected of them. It's a big change for them to come out of a schoolboy programme and into a more intense full-time job. It's their first job in football really."

With pre-season well under way, the youngsters have now settled in with their host families in the Southampton area ahead of their first season as a scholar with the club.

The new scholars are: Thomas O’Connor, Neal Osborn, Dan N’Lundulu, Tyreke Johnson, Callum Slattery, Connor Langan, Yann Valery, Ben Cull, Siph Mdlalose, Rugare Musendo and Ben Rowthorn.
