Perry hails Kelvin’s achievement

Former Saints defender Chris Perry believes that Kelvin Davis’s professionalism and love of the club are major reasons behind the goalkeeper reaching the 300 appearance mark for Southampton.

Perry played alongside Davis for two years in both the Championship and League 1, with the defender who retired at 37 years of age, full of praise for the way in which his ex-teammate has reached that landmark.

For many players, reaching 300 appearances in one career is considered as a feat, but to achieve it with one club on the back of an already distinguished time in the game is credit to the goalkeeper’s ability according to Perry.

“To do it at one club certainly, and for the longevity of him as well to have played in League 1 and still be doing as well as he has done in the Premier League is testament to just how good a keeper he is,” said the former centre half.

“He’s a superb professional,” Perry adds. “Kelvin is the first out on the training pitches every single morning and he’s the last one off it too. He’s so full of enthusiasm around the place, he’s a fantastic professional and the reason he’s still playing at the level he is, at his age in the first team over the past few games is down to that. It’s a testament to his dedication, not only to his own game, but to the love of the football club as well.

“He loves Southampton and being down there which is something you can really see in every day during training.”
