Alderweireld's Belgium victorious in Israel

By SFC Media Tue 31 Mar First team

Toby Alderweireld helped Belgium to a battling win over Israel and sent his country top of their Euro 2016 qualifying group.

In the end, Marouane Fellaini’s ninth-minute goal was enough to secure victory at the Teddy Stadium in Jerusalem.

However, it was far from plain sailing for the Red Devils after captain Vincent Kompany was shown a second yellow card shortly after the hour mark.

But the Belgians put in a superb defensive effort to hold onto their lead in order to leapfrog their opponents and Wales into top spot in qualifying group B.

Alderweireld, who was booked 19 minutes in, had a couple of chances to score himself but saw one shot go narrowly off target and another saved by Israel goalkeeper Ofir Marciano.
