Saints trio help Young Lions to victory

By SFC Media time Sun 29 Mar Club

Southampton trio Harrison Reed, Jack Stephens and Jordan Turnbull all started for England Under-20s as they won 2-1 against USA at Plymouth Argyle’s Home Park.

Stephens and Turnbull were handed their first Under-20 caps by Aidy Boothroyd following their good form on loan at League 1 side Swindon Town this season.

Reed, who has now won six caps for the Under-20s, started in midfield alongside Stephens, with Turnbull in defence.

The Young Lions took the lead on the stroke of half-time, as John Swift converted from Moses Odubajo’s cross.

Swift then turned provider to set up Kwame Thomas, who made it 2-0 to England with just over twenty minutes remaining.

Maki Tull pulled one back almost immediately for the visitors, but Boothroyd's side held on to back up their penalty shootout win against Mexico last Wednesday with another victory.
