Steven Davis came off at half-time as Northern Ireland beat Finland 2-1 in a UEFA EURO 2016 Group F qualifier.
The Green and White Army were unlucky not to be ahead early on as Chris Baird saw his header ruled out for an earlier offside call, while Jamie Ward was denied by an excellent save from the Finnish goalkeeper.
They got their reward just after the half-hour mark as Kyle Lafferty produced an excellent volley on the turn to find the bottom corner of the net.
Lafferty then headed home to make it 2-0 just before half-time, with Davis withdrawn at the break for Michael O’Neill’s side.
Berat Sadik pulled one back late on to set up a frantic finish, but Northern Ireland held on to pick up their fourth win from five qualifiers.
Florin Gardos was an unused substitute for Romania, as they beat the Faroe Islands 1-0 at the Ilie Oana Stadium.
Claudiu Keseru scored the only goal of the game after 20 minutes to ensure Romania remain the only unbeaten team in the group.
The three points mean Romania maintain their lead at the top of Group F on 13 points, closely followed by Davis’s Northern Ireland who are one point behind.
