Sadio Mané will soon be on his way back to Southampton after Senegal were eliminated from the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Lions of Teranga were beaten 2-0 by Algeria this evening, leaving them third in a hotly-contested group and out of the tournament.
Mané and his teammates needed only a point from their final group-stage fixture, having previously beaten Ghana and drawn with South Africa.
The Saints winger, who returned from injury to play the entirety of that draw with South Africa four days ago, was again named in the starting XI for this evening’s game in Malabo.
Senegal needed only a draw to qualify for the quarter-finals, but things did not go to plan as Leicester’s Riyad Mahrez put Algeria ahead after just 11 minutes.
Mané was substituted on 66 minutes after a frustrating evening, before Tottenham midfielder Nabil Bentaleb wrapped things up eight minutes from time.
