Nathaniel Clyne, James Ward-Prowse and Steven Davis all spoke to the media after Southampton's defeat to Crystal Palace in the FA Cup Fourth Round on Saturday.
Here's what the trio had to say to the media after the game:
Nathaniel Clyne on how Crystal Palace’s attackers made it tough…
“They went for it. As you see, they played with four strikers up front and they made it difficult for us. They created lots of chances and they scored the goals.
“Hopefully we can learn from our mistakes and we can strengthen from the result. We’re known for having such a solid defence, having a good defensive record and keeping a lot of goals out.
“It just seemed a bit odd that we conceded three goals, that’s unlike us. But I’m sure we’ll go over it next training session and we’ll work on our weaknesses.”
James Ward-Prowse on what cost Saints against Alan Pardew’s side…
“We did well to get the two goals but we’re really disappointed after the game with how we performed defensively. That’s not just the back four, that’s collectively as a team.
“I think Palace, we saw them at the start and we saw their attacking players, and we knew they were going to come at us from the start but I thik on our part it was sloppy defending.
“It’s obviously a shame, because the big teams are out, but it’s just one of those things. It’s the beauty of the FA Cup. We expected to win, and unfortunately we didn’t, but that’s just one of those things.”
Steven Davis reflections on a disappointing display in the first half…
“I just think it was a little bit uncharacteristic of us, in terms of what our success has been built on this season – being solid and having a good organisation.
“We’re obviously disappointed with the goals and the opportunities that we gave up, but one of the positives from today was the fact that we got a reaction second half.
“We just couldn’t get that goal to get us back in the game in the second half.”
