LOAN WATCH: Stephens returns as Saints quartet enjoy winning weekends

Jack Stephens made a winning loan return for Swindon Town alongside Jordan Turnbull as four Saints loanees triumphed over the weekend.

After spending the latter end of 2013/14 with the Robins, Stephens rejoined the side on a temporary basis this season but was out until Saturday, when he partnered Turnbull in the centre of defence as they secured a 3-0 League One win away to Barnsley.

Prior to that, Turnbull started again as Swindon eliminated Newport County from the Football League Trophy with a First Round 2-1 victory on Tuesday.

There was knockout competition joy for Artur Boruc in midweek also, as he kept a clean sheet in Bournemouth’s Capital One Cup Third Round 3-0 win over Cardiff City, before he completed the second shutout out of his loan spell as the Cherries defeated Wigan Athletic 2-0 in their Championship clash at the weekend.

While Jos Hooiveld was absent as a young Norwich City side crashed out of the cup at the hands of 1-0 winners Shrewsbury Town earlier last week, the defender was reinstated in the Canaries lineup to great effect on Saturday as they secured a 3-1 Championship win at Blackpool.

Another Saints loanee whose team recorded a 50 percent winning record in the last week was Dani Osvaldo, who netted in a 2-0 Serie A win over Atalanta before grabbing a consolation goal in a 4-1 home defeat to Cagliari.

Gastón Ramírez wasn’t involved as Hull City surrendered their Capital One Cup status for the season in a 3-2 loss to West Brom, but he did replace fellow Uruguayan Abel Hernández at the weekend as the Tigers failed to prevent Manchester City leaving the KC Stadium with a 4-2 Premier League success.

While it was a good week for Jake Sinclair’s loan club Hibernian, the youngster didn’t manage to get involved as he watched from the bench in a 2-0 Scottish League Cup win over Ross County before being left out of the squad as Hibs claimed a 3-1 scalp against Rangers on Monday evening.
