Southampton Football Club has welcomed its latest intake of youngsters, with nine players signing two-year scholarships at St Mary’s on Sunday lunchtime.

The group of 16 year-olds come from a variety of backgrounds, with some having spent a number of years with Southampton already, while some have only joined the club in recent months.

With members of their respective families watching on proudly, the nine sat down with Academy Manager Matt Hale to commit themselves to Saints for the next two years.

They will now move in with host families in the Southampton area before beginning pre-season training tomorrow as they look to force their way into the Under-18 team for the coming campaign.

The nine new scholars are: Alfie Jones, Carel Kayembe, Harley Willard, Jake Hallett, Joe Lea, Ollie Cook, Olufela Olomola, Richard Bakary and Stuart Wilkin.
