Game over for Gastón & Uruguay

By SFC Media time Sun 29 Jun Men's First team

Gastón Ramírez’s time at the 2014 FIFA World Cup finals came to an end last night as his Uruguay were beaten 2-0 by Colombia.

Even after setting up the goal against Italy that secured Uruguay’s place in the last 16 on Tuesday, the Saints man again had to settle for a spot on the bench at the Maracanã on Saturday evening.

By the time he was called into action eight minutes into the second half, La Celeste were already two goals down.

James Rodriguez had put Colombia in front on 28 minutes, before adding his second just after the break.

Ramírez could not help his team back into the game, with Colombia good value for their win and their place in the quarter-finals.

Morgan Schneiderlin is now the only remaining Southampton player at the finals. He will hope to be involved for France when they face Nigeria in Brasília tomorrow.
