Schneiderlin set for France start?

Morgan Schneiderlin could be in line to make his first start for France when they face Ecuador at the 2014 FIFA World Cup this evening.

The Saints midfielder has been an unused substitute during Les Bleus’ first two games, as they swept aside Honduras and Switzerland to qualify for the last 16 with a match to spare.

Coach Didier Deschamps may therefore look to rotate his squad for tonight’s game with top spot virtually assured given his side’s vastly-superior goal difference.

Former Newcastle midfielder Yohan Cabaye is suspended while Mathieu Valbuena is expected to be rested, opening the door for Schneiderlin to make his World Cup debut.

The 24-year-old impressed in a friendly win over Botafogo’s under-18s on Saturday, scoring the final goal in a 3-0 victory for the players who had not featured against Switzerland the previous evening.

France take on Ecuador at the Estádio Maracanã in Rio de Janeiro tonight at 9pm BST.
