Saints’ Calum Chambers, Harrison Reed and Matt Targett started in England U19s’ 2-1 Euro Elite Round qualifier win over Scotland on Monday night.
Chambers captained the Young Lions in their victory as they continued in their charge towards Hungary’s 2014 European Championship, while Reed made the eleven after being an unused substitute in the 6-0 crushing of Montenegro.
Targett, as expected, filled the left-back role while Sam Gallagher found himself watching on from the bench despite netting in England’s last match.
It looked as though England were in for an unfortunate evening after an opener from Scotland’s John Soutter was followed by the Young Lions hitting the post twice in quick succession through Chuba Akpom and Jordon Ibe.
Noel Blake’s side’s pressing finally reaped rewards as Chelsea’s Lewis Baker struck twice late on to snatch victory for the English.
The final Elite Round game for Southampton’s quartet and the rest of the team sees England return to Burton Albion’s Pirelli Stadium to welcome Ukraine – kick-off 3pm BST on Thursday.
