James in Toulon tie with Qatar

James Ward-Prowse and England begin their Under-20 Toulon Tournament campaign tonight against Qatar.

The Young Lions are currently preparing for their competition-opener in southern France before attentions turn to remaining Group B matches against Brazil, South Korea and Colombia.

Saints’ Ward-Prowse, an influential cog within the side in recent times, will be hoping to once again start in the heart of midfield in tonight’s clash – kick-off 6.30pm BST at the Stade Léo-Lagrange.

England will be looking to hand themselves an early boost with a win as only one side qualifies from each group in the ten-team tournament. Mexico, Portugal, Chile, China and host nation France occupy the other spots in Group A.

The Young Lions will be looking to become Toulon champions for the first time in 1994, where they marked a run of being crowned the winners four times in five years.

Saints have recent history in the competition, with Morgan Schneiderlin scoring in France’s first game in 2010 and helping his country to the semi-finals before being eliminated by Denmark.

Goalkeeper Cody Cropper represented USA last year as they were eliminated in the group stage.
