Mauricio Pochettino spoke to the press on Thursday afternoon ahead of Tuesday night’s Barclays Premier League game at home to Arsenal.

Here are the key points from the briefing:

On Dani Osvaldo…

“There is nothing to comment on that. We all know Osvaldo is suspended. We have to focus on the game [against Arsenal].”

On Luke Shaw…

“Southampton have no interest in selling Luke Shaw, not in the summer either. Southampton have got a lot of expectation put in Luke’s future and we have no intention of selling him.

“He’s dealing with [the speculation] very well. He has matured very quickly – when we got here he was a kid, now he’s a man. These things do not affect him at all.”

On Arsenal…

“Arsenal have got a great structure. They have got a squad with very talented players and the structure of the club allowed them to fight for the title until the end of the season. They will be there fighting for the title.

“Of course, we will try to win the game. One of our strengths is that we go to every game believing that we can win the game, and this is something that we will do. We will go and attack them and try to win the game.”

On team news…

“Artur [Boruc] is fine. Victor [Wanyama] has got possibilities to go into the squad and the other doubt we’ve got is Rickie Lambert – a problem in the hamstring and we will assess in training whether he can participate in the game or not.”

On transfers…

“What we are assessing is the balance of the squad. Obviously, we have had people working with this and maybe we will see something in the next few days.

“We are assessing several possibilities. We are working here in England, as well as abroad, and we will see if we have to make a decision.”

On Sam Gallagher…

“No, no fear at all (of starting him in the Premier League). Nothing’s changed. Sam’s position is still the same. We are very calm with the young, talented players. We want to give them the chance step by step.”

On team spirit…

“The team is perfect. There is a great environment, great atmosphere inside the changing room, on the pitch. The team is perfect and looking forward to the future.”
