Pochettino enjoys selection headache

Mauricio Pochettino is welcoming the potential selection dilemma that he could face when Dani Osvaldo and Steven Davis return to full fitness in the near future.

The First Team performed more than admirably in the pair’s absence when Saints cruised to a comfortable 2-0 victory over Fulham at the weekend.

As Osvaldo and Davis close in on returns from injury, Pochettino is grateful to have more quality options in contention that will make his starting XI decisions even tougher.

“It’s a good problem to have,” the Southampton gaffer told reporters. “It makes me very happy that both Osvaldo and Davis can return to the starting team. In the game against Fulham, the players that did come out played as a team and we got the win – that’s the most important factor.

“It just shows me that the 23, 24 players that I have available all play for this team and do well for this team. Then it’s just down to me as the manager to make the decisions of what players will actually be starting.”

Pochettino is also predicting that Saints fans will be treated to the best of Osvaldo in the coming months as the Italian international settles to life in England.

The First Team coach believes the Barclays Premier League is the most difficult of Europe's top divisions for forwards to adjust to, but is adamant that Osvaldo will have no issues with becoming accustomed to this country’s style and tempo.

“He is still in the process of adapting,” Pochettino confirmed. “There’s a big difference between the Spanish, the Italian and the English leagues. After getting to know the French league, the Italian league and the Spanish league, I fully think that, having been here in England, this is the toughest competition.

“I think this is the best league, the toughest, the most competitive, and especially for strikers I think the period of adapting to this league is quite difficult. He is still in the process of adapting.

“Every player needs his own personal time to adapt to this league. Every player is different. I am sure that he is not going to have any problems adapting to this league and I am sure that in a few months we are going to see the best of him in this league.”
