It's Been A Good Season - Rickie

Rickie Lambert was pleased to round off his campaign with a goal after securing a point against Stoke City this afternoon.

Lambert levelled matters with his 15th goal of the season after Peter Crouch had put the visitors ahead two minutes into the second half.

And the striker reflected on a successful first year in the Premier League at full time, with Saints finishing the season 14th in the table and five points clear of the drop zone.

"I am proud – every goal means a lot," said Lambert after the game.

"Playing in the Premier League has been a highlight, and I've playing against top players in every game so I've been lucky enough to score against them.

"It's been a good season for me personally, and for the boys it's been superb.

"It was nice to finish on a goal, but it was a shame that we didn't win it. At least we didn't lose. It was one of my simpler goals, and I haven't scored many like that so it was nice.

"We wanted to win, but we've come from behind and managed to draw the game. It was a good result, and we've obviously got to be very happy with the season we've had."

Lambert finishes the season as the joint-highest English goalscorer in the Premier League, surprising many critics with how he has fared in his first-ever top flight season.

And the 31-year-old is glad that he – and his teammates – have proved a few doubters wrong over the course of the campaign.

"Scoring in the Premier League has been my ambition for many years, so it's been nice," he said.

"I feel like I could have scored more, but I will look back on it with happy memories.

"We've been written off quite a lot this season, especially after the start had.

"Every individual kept their belief in themselves and the team throughout, so it was only a matter of time until we started playing our football and getting the results we thought we deserved.

"It's been a great season and we're looking forward to the next one."
