Morgan Does The Double!

By SFC Media time Tue 14 May Club

Morgan Schneiderlin was crowned as the Fans’ Player of the Season and Players’ Player of the Season at this evening’s 2012-13 Official Player Awards Dinner sponsored by Eterna.

A large crowd was in attendance at St Mary’s, with the evening being hosted by our Honorary President Terry Paine and compèred by Sky Sports presenter – and Saints fan – Ed Chamberlin.

Schneiderlin was voted as the 2012-13 season’s standout performer by the Club’s supporters and his fellow First Team players, with his double award providing recognition for his superb campaign in the heart of Saints midfield.

Schneiderlin polled 68.6% of the fans’ vote, ahead of second-placed Rickie Lambert with 11.6% and Jack Cork in third with 8.9%.

He now succeeds Lambert as the Fans’ Player of the Season, having picked up his award from Eterna’s Vice President Samir Merdanovic this evening.

He also collected the Players’ Player of the Season award from Club Captain Kelvin Davis having dominated the players’ poll.

Jason Puncheon’s equalising volley in January’s draw at Chelsea saw him pick up the Goal of the Season Award sponsored by Grey Goose.

Guests at tonight’s event were asked to choose their favourite from a five-goal shortlist that also included Puncheon’s stunner against Stevenage in the Capital One Cup plus Rickie Lambert’s free kick in our home win over the Blues.

Also on the list was Nathaniel Clyne’s goal against Aston Villa last September, plus Jay Rodriguez’s well-taken strike in March’s win over Liverpool at St Mary’s.

There was also recognition for midfielder James Ward-Prowse, who picked up the Scholar of the Season Award from Academy Manager Matt Crocker.

Ward-Prowse picked up the award ahead of fellow youngsters Luke Shaw and Dominic Gape, with Crocker highlighting the 18-year-old’s outstanding approach to his education as a key factor in his victory.
