Saints U18s 2-0 Bolton U18s: Report

By SFC Media time Sat 09 Feb Club

Southampton’s Under-18s scored a goal in each half to see off Bolton Wanderers at Staplewood.

Sam Gallagher’s header after half an hour put Jason Dodd’s side in front before Bevis Mugabi doubled the advantage early in the second period.

Jake Flannigan nearly added a third but was thwarted by Bolton’s goalkeeper, whilst Will Britt made two excellent saves at the other end.

The result ensures Saints’ youngsters remain unbeaten at home in the Barclays U18 Premier League.

“[We were] excellent today,” Jason Dodd beamed after the game.

“We were really disappointed after last week’s display (5-1 defeat at Fulham) and we were looking for the boys to bounce back today.

“We’re never going to hear the last of it with Bevis Mugabi (scoring his first goal of the season) because we’ve been challenging him for weeks to get on the scoresheet.”

Saints U18s: Britt, Leggett, Mugabi, McCarthy, Wood, Gape, Flannigan, Ariyibi (Hesketh 80), Reed, McQueen, Gallagher (Higgins 70). Subs (not used): White, Mason, Sims
