FULL TIME: Liverpool 3-1 Saints

An encouraging performance away from home, but it's not enough for Nathan Jones to claim his first points as Southampton manager. Darwin Núñez's brace and Roberto Firmino's opener secure the three points for Liverpool, with Ché Adams's header a consolation. Saints will now head into the mid-season break before facing Lincoln City in the Carabao Cup in December.

A final sub, as Aribo replaces Lavia who hobbles off - let's hope it's nothing serious.

Ward-Prowse's wide free-kick is flicked on by Salisu, with a diving Lyanco unable to apply a finishing touch at the back post.

It's a stunning save from Alisson. Maitland-Niles's cross is headed down into the ground by Adams, but the Liverpool keeper somehow gets down low to his right to get a hand to the ball.

It's been a good second half from Nathan Jones's side, who have pressed to reduce the deficit as the game ticks into the final 15 minutes.

It's a snapshot from the striker who's under pressure from Van Dijk, but it's straight into the midriff of the Brazilian keeper.

A clinical half from the hosts, who were initially pegged back by Saints when Ché Adams cancelled out Roberto Firmino's early opener. Darwin Núñez the main menace for the hosts, with the Uruguayan grabbing a brace to give Jürgen Klopp's side some breathing room at the break.

Arma with a chance

It's a repeat of Adams's chance in the opening exchanges. Elyounoussi's cross from the right is perfect for Adam Armstrong at the near post, but the striker doesn't make a good enough connection and it bounces wide.

The midfielder is making his first start since August.

Liverpool break on Southampton, resulting in Núñez's clever backheel finding Firmino six yards out, but Bazunu is quick off of his line once again to block the striker's attempt and pounce on the rebound.

A huge stop from the Irishman. Núñez beats the offside trap down the left and sends a low ball in towards Salah, but Bazunu is off his line to block the Egyptian's shot from close range.

After the early setback, Jones's side have responded brilliantly. Having equalised through Adams, it's the visitors who remain on the front foot.

What a response from Saints!  Ward-Prowse's deep free-kick is swung into the box which lures Alisson off his line, but Adams meets the ball first to glance a header into the unguarded net.

An early booking for Ćaleta-Car, who takes out Salah as Liverpool looked to hit Saints on the break.

Núñez's cross from the left is coolly chested into the arms of Bazunu by Mohammed Salisu.

An early signal of intent from Saints. Elyounoussi, operating at right wing-back, sends in a dangerous cross, but Adams can't get above the ball and his header drifts wide of the target.
