With Stuart Armstrong giving Saints the lead shortly after the break, momentum remained firmly in their favour for the rest of the match. Making an instant impact from off the bench, Shane Long scored with his first touch of the game to make it 2-0 and secure a huge three points for Hasenhüttl's men!

LONG MAKES IT TWO
Absolute scenes in SO14 as Shane Long finds the back of the net just seconds after being substituted on and with his first touch of the game. A wonderful looping cross from Livramento from the right side of the area falls perfectly for Long at the far post, who makes no error in finding the back of the net to extend Saints' advantage. St Mary's erupts.

Moments after seeing his shot bounce wide of the far post, Broja comes off to a standing ovation as Long is introduced to the tie.
Saints pushing for a second
Walker-Peters has been remarkable down the left-flank today, forcing another save from Pickford who keeps Everton in the match with just over ten minutes remaining.

Walker-Peters drives into the box and releases a low shot towards goal, it takes a huge deflection and it's a good effort from Pickford to get down in time to make the save.
Everton needing change
Into the last 20 minutes of play at St Mary's as Hasenhüttl's men continue to dominate Frank Lampard's Everton. It looks as though one final roll of the dice is coming for the visitors as Dele Alli readies himself on the sideline.

Saints pile on pressure
Another set-piece, another divine Ward-Prowse delivery. Breezing past the wall, the ball finds the head of Elyounoussi at the far-post. It falls perfectly for the Norwegian but he fails to get it on target as it bounces off the post.
Armstrong fires over the crossbar
With momentum firmly in Saints' favour, Stuart Armstrong comes inches away from securing his second of the enoucnter. It's lovely build up play between him and Adams who work their way into the box, a number of players attempt their shots before the ball deflects back to an awaiting Armstrong but his powerful effort edges just over the crossbar.
Saints searching for a second
That goal has given Hasenhüttl's men a huge boost as they look to extend their lead, Ward-Prowse loops a sublime ball into the area to an awaiting Adams. He gets a head to it but it goes straight into the gloves of Pickford.
ARMSTRONG GIVES SAINTS THE LEAD
Calm and collected as always, Stuart Armstrong finds the back of the net to give Saints a deserved advantage at St Mary's. Romeu does well to ignite the charge before passing to Adams who squares to Armstrong. Taking his time with the ball, the Scot fires a low, bouncing shot into the bottom right hand corner.

Despite the visitors getting out of the blocks much quicker, it's Saints who end the first half on top. Ward-Prowse has challenged a number of times from the set-piece, with Hasenhüttl's men looking increasingly dangerous on the attack.

With possession firmly in Saints' favour, Everton look to find an opening in the game with Richarlison looking for a way into the area before Bednarek gets a foot in to make the interception.

Walker-Peters shoots wide
Starting to question how Southampton haven't scored yet at St Mary's, Walker-Peters is the latest to be denied as his shot bounces off the near post and behind for an Everton goal kick.
OVER THE CROSSBAR 🤯
Another corner and another opportunity just inches away for Hasenhüttl's men. Everton initially do enough to clear the corner but only as far as Romeu who curls the ball back into the packed penalty area. Bednarek, who has already scored three times this season, gets a head to it but it flies just over the crossbar.
Saints continue to apply pressure
Another positive move from Saints coming from the counter as Ward-Prowse releases Armstrong, cornered by the Everton defence he fails to get a shot away and opts to pass to Elyounoussi in front of goal but it's another comfortable save for Pickford.
Broja in space
After an electric start from the visitors, it's Saints who have control of proceedings. Broja is found in acres of space from a looping ball and charges into the area, with pressure from Coleman, his effort on goal is safely intercepted by the visitors.
OFF THE LINE 🥵
Ward-Prowse delivers another Saints corner as they come inches away from taking the lead. The ball drags across the face of goal and while Livramento is there to get a touch, he can't get the ball under control and Pickford retreives for Everton.
Delightful from Walker-Peters
Just as Saints looked to lose posession, a fantastic passage of play from Walker-Peters as he battled to stay on his feet saw them with yet another challenge on Pickford's goal. He can't find the back of the net and Saints' appeal for handball are ignored.
Elyounoussi denied by Pickford
The opportunities are starting to fall Saints' way, with Romeu making a charge down the centre of the pitch to a roar of Saints fans screaming 'shoot.' Instead, he slips the ball through to Elyounoussi who ultimately sees his effort blocked by Pickford.
Saints battling for control
Nice work from Walker-Peters to regain possession near the halfway line before releasing Adams who works his way towards the box and earns another Saints corner. Another fine delivery from Ward-Prowse but Pickford comes out to retreive the ball for the visitors.

A lovely shot from Ward-Prowse who predictably finds the target from the free-kick but Pickford does enough to get down and push the ball behind for a Saints corner.

Saints looking for chances on the counter
Lampard's men are clearly full of confidence after their 3-0 victory over Leeds United, with Hasenhüttl's side forced to monopolise on opportunities on the counter to find an opening in the game. Stuart Armstrong is the next to lead the charge from the back with a strong passage of passing play ensuing before Elyounoussi fails to control the ball and it goes out for an Everton throw-in.
