GOALSCORER 7 Shane Long

LONG MAKES IT TWO

Absolute scenes in SO14 as Shane Long finds the back of the net just seconds after being substituted on and with his first touch of the game. A wonderful looping cross from Livramento from the right side of the area falls perfectly for Long at the far post, who makes no error in finding the back of the net to extend Saints' advantage. 65’

Everton substitution: Alexander Iwobi replaces Andros Townsend

Another substitution from Lampard, this time Townsend replaces Iwobi.

65’

Saints pile on pressure

Another set-piece, another divine Ward-Prowse delivery. Breezing past the wall, the ball finds the head of Elyounoussi at the far-post. It falls perfectly for the Norwegian but he fails to get it on target as it bounces off the post.

62’

Armstrong fires over the crossbar

With momentum firmly in Saints' favour, Stuart Armstrong comes inches away from securing his second of the enoucnter. It's lovely build up play between him and Adams who work their way into the box, a number of players attempt their shots before the ball deflects back to an awaiting Armstrong but his powerful effort edges just over the crossbar.

58’

Saints searching for a second

That goal has given Hasenhüttl's men a huge boost as they look to extend their lead, Ward-Prowse loops a sublime ball into the area to an awaiting Adams. He gets a head to it but it goes straight into the gloves of Pickford.

GOALSCORER 17 Stuart Armstrong

ARMSTRONG GIVES SAINTS THE LEAD

Calm and collected as always, Stuart Armstrong finds the back of the net to give Saints a deserved advantage at St Mary's. Romeu does well to ignite the charge before passing to Adams who squares to Armstrong. Taking his time with the ball, the Scot fires a low, bouncing shot into the bottom right hand corner.

37’

OVER THE CROSSBAR 🤯

Another corner and another opportunity just inches away for Hasenhüttl's men. Everton initially do enough to clear the corner but only as far as Romeu who curls the ball back into the packed penalty area. Bednarek, who has already scored three times this season, gets a head to it but it flies just over the crossbar.

Saints continue to apply pressure

Another positive move from Saints coming from the counter as Ward-Prowse releases Armstrong, cornered by the Everton defence he fails to get a shot away and opts to pass to Elyounoussi in front of goal but it's another comfortable save for Pickford.

33’

Broja in space

After an electric start from the visitors, it's Saints who have control of proceedings. Broja is found in acres of space from a looping ball and charges into the area, with pressure from Coleman, his effort on goal is safely intercepted by the visitors.

32’

OFF THE LINE 🥵

Ward-Prowse delivers another Saints corner as they come inches away from taking the lead. The ball drags across the face of goal and while Livramento is there to get a touch, he can't get the ball under control and Pickford retreives for Everton.

28’

Delightful from Walker-Peters

Just as Saints looked to lose posession, a fantastic passage of play from Walker-Peters as he battled to stay on his feet saw them with yet another challenge on Pickford's goal. He can't find the back of the net and Saints' appeal for handball are ignored.

26’

Elyounoussi denied by Pickford

The opportunities are starting to fall Saints' way, with Romeu making a charge down the centre of the pitch to a roar of Saints fans screaming 'shoot.' Instead, he slips the ball through to Elyounoussi who ultimately sees his effort blocked by Pickford.

22’

Saints battling for control

A dangerous free-kick for the visitors as Gordon fires in the set-piece from the right side of the box before Adams makes a vital defensive header to clear for Saints.

6’

First Saints opportunity

With sustained pressure from Everton in the opening five minutes, it's Saints' turn to attack as Adams leads a charge down the centre of the pitch before releasing an on-side Broja down the right. Dancing into the penalty area, Broja looks to get a shot away but it's a tight angle and a comfortable save for Pickford.

5’

A potential handball in the area causes Saints to panic as VAR checks for a possible penalty but after a long check, play is allowed to resume.

4’
