- Saints respond with a James Ward-Prowse penalty
- Ayoze Pérez hits a brace to put the result beyond doubt
FULL TIME: Leicester 4-1 Southampton
The 2021/22 season ends in defeat. All five goals came in a frantic second half at King Power Stadium, but James Ward-Prowse's goal proves to be little more than consolation for Ralph Hasenhüttl's side. Time to regroup and go again next season...
17.53Pérez grabs a second
It's a second for the substitute, who smashes home Ricardo's cut back from the byline.
GOAL
Ayoze Pérez (90+6’) | 4 – 1

Southampton substitution: Will Smallbone replaces Oriol Romeu
A late change for Saints.
Into stoppage time
We'll have an additional seven minutes.
Ward-Prowse off target
It's a free-kick 20 yards from goal which always tempts the captain, but his effort is over Schmeichel's bar.
Southampton substitution: Shane Long replaces Nathan Redmond
Shane Long enters the fray.
Leicester City substitution: Daniel Amartey replaces James Maddison
Maddison's work is done for the afternoon.
Pérez restores two-goal advantage
Just when Saints thought they were coming back into it, Leicester hit back. Maddison's cross from the left expertly finds the substitute at the back post, who volley pasts McCarthy from close range.
GOAL
Ayoze Pérez (80’) | 3 – 1

ONE BACK 👊
No mistake from the captain. Ward-Prowse fires into the bottom corner from 12 yards.
GOOOAL!!!
James Ward-Prowse (79’) | 2 – 1
PENALTY SAINTS!
Stuart Armstrong dribbles into the box and is brought down by Tielemans, with John Moss pointing straight to the spot!
Leicester City substitution: Ademola Lookman replaces Harvey Barnes
A further switch for the home side.
Vardy rounds off counter
Leicester go from back to front in a matter of moments. Barnes charges from his own half before finding Vardy 40 yards from goal, with the striker jinking inside of Lyanco having dribbled into the box before picking out the bottom corner.
GOAL
Jamie Vardy (74’) | 2 – 0

Southampton substitution: Moussa Djenepo replaces Mohamed Elyounoussi
Ralph Hasenhüttl makes his second substitution of the afternoon.
Leicester City substitution: Ricardo Domingos Barbosa Pereira replaces Timothy Castagne
A switch at full-back for the Foxes.
Yellow Card for Oriol Romeu (Southampton)
The midfielder goes into the book for dissent, after a disagreement with referee John Moss.
Vardy thwarted by Lyanco
Vardy looks set to convert a second after cutting in from the left, but Lyanco stretches out a leg and gets a vital touch on the ball as the striker prepares to shoot.
Adams heads over
It's Elyounoussi again causing problems down the left. His ball in is this time intended for Adams in the middle, but with the ball slightly behind him, his header loops over the bar.
Keep pushing, lads 💪
Chance for Redmond
Elyounoussi's ball in from the left is floated perfectly onto the head of Redmond, but his header under pressure from 12 yards is straight at Schmeichel who claims.
Leicester City substitution: Ayoze Pérez replaces Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall
A first change for the hosts.
Southampton substitution: Ché Adams replaces Adam Armstrong
Get well soon, Arma!
Arma can't continue
It's an unfortunate end to the season for Adam Armstrong. Despite initially coming back on after that nasty clash of heads with Jonny Evans, the striker can't continue and is having to be replaced.
Play resumes
Both Armstrong and Evans are thankfully okay and able to continue. The two players are now sporting bandages around their head.
A nasty looking head injury 🤕
It's an innocuous coming together, but Adam Armstrong and Jonny Evans have both clashed heads while challenging for the ball. A stoppage in play as both get bandaged up.
Barnes denied
Barnes races into the box with Vardy screaming for the ball to played across goal for him, but the Leicester man looks to go it alone and is tackled well by Lyanco.
Maddison gifted the opener
Either a mistake or a moment of brilliance was going to provide the opener in this game, and it's the former. Lyanco's attempted header back to McCarthy is short allowing Vardy to shoot, and despite a good save from McCarthy, Maddison is there to roll home the rebound.
GOAL
James Maddison (49’) | 1 – 0

Play resumes...
The second 45 is up and running in the Midlands. Come on, Saints!
HALF TIME: Leicester 0-0 Southampton
A game that, so far, very much fits the description for a nothing to play for end of season affair. Neither goalkeeper has been called into action as both sides have had success defending deep and in numbers. Timothy Castagne's early header over the bar the only real chance of the half.
Vardy almost poaches
Good work from Maddison sets Castagne into space down the right, but his whipped delivery can't quite be reached by a stretching Vardy in the middle.
Cancelling each other out ❌
With both sides defending deep and in numbers, neither side has been able to create a real opportunity. The break approaches with no sign of an opener at this stage.
Salisu takes a hit
The Saints defender takes a whack to the face at a corner, but the Ghanaian is fine to continue after a brief stoppage.
Ward-Prowse fires over
The skipper collects Elyounoussi's pass 20 yards out, but his first-time strike sails high over Schmeichel's goal.
Vardy takes a tumble
Chasing a ball in behind, Vardy goes down after a tangle of legs with Lyanco, but despite penalty appeals from the stands, play continues...
Chances at a premium
A quarter-of-an-hour played and neither goalkeeper has been tested. Castagne's early header over the bar continues to be the only meaningful attempt on goal so far.
Lyanco well placed
Castagne drives towards the byline and fires a low ball into the box, but Lyanco is perfectly placed in the six-yard box to clear.
Castagne heads over
A big chance for the hosts. The Foxes recycle possession from a corner with Maddison swinging in a dangerous cross, but Castagne can only head over from six yards.
Vardy threatens
It's been all Saints so far, but a swift Leicester break away sees Barnes slip in Vardy down the left channel, but his low cross is cut out by Stephens for a corner.
In that number 😇
Tremendous travelling support on the final day.
Early Saints possession
It's a good start from the visitors, who have seen all of the ball in the early stages.
