Key moments so far

  • Saints through to Emirates FA Cup quarter-finals
  • Perraud hits 30-yard rocket to break the deadlock on 31 minutes; Antonio levels things up
  • Saints awarded a penalty after the referee consults pitch-side monitor; Ward-Prowse scores
  • Fine solo effort from substitute Broja wraps up the win in stoppage time

FULL TIME: Southampton 3-1 West Ham

It's all over and Saints are in the quarter-finals! Ralph Hasenhüttl made nine changes and Saints were a little slow out of the blocks, but Romain Perraud's wonder goal set them on their way. Michail Antonio equalised on the hour, but Saints were awarded a penalty after consultation with VAR, converted by James Ward-Prowse. Armando Broja, who won the spot-kick, rounded things off in stoppage time.

GOALSCORER 18 Armando Broja

What a way to finish it!

Brilliant footwork from Broja sees him wriggle his way into the penalty area and slide the ball into the bottom corner for another superb Saints goal!

+4’

GOOOAL!!!

Armando Broja (+4’) | 3 1

90’

7️⃣ minutes to be played...

We're into stoppage time and there's plenty of it.

90’

Southampton substitution: Oriol Romeu replaces Ibrahima Diallo

Diallo departs to a standing ovation.

89’

What a save!

West Ham have been dangerous from corners all night, but Caballero makes a flying save to keep out Dawson's header and maintain Saints' slender advantage.

87’

Yellow Card for Ibrahima Diallo (Southampton)

Diallo wrestles Rice to the ground as the England man tries to initiate a counter-attack. Rice didn't like it, but Diallo takes the booking.

86’

Great effort from Redmond

Excellent play from the substitute, who drives forward and tries his luck with a vicious 25-yard shot that Areola parries wide.

85’

Yellow Card for Romain Perraud (Southampton)

It's a cynical one from Perraud to prevent Bowen from breaking away.

83’

Broja receiving treatment

He's been in the thick of the action since he came on; he's won the penalty, taken a ball in the face, and now Broja feels the full force of Johnson's flailing hand. He's back on now.

80’

Southampton substitution: Nathan Redmond replaces Will Smallbone

That's substitution number four for Saints, as Redmond comes on for the final 10 minutes.

77’

Broja shoots off target

Positive play from the substitute, who drives into the box, but his shot from an acute angle is high and wide.

76’

West Ham United substitution: Nikola Vlasic replaces Pablo Fornals

It's West Ham's second change of the night.

GOALSCORER 8 James Ward-Prowse

GET IN!!!

He bangs it straight down the middle and Saints are back in front!

68’

GOOOAL!!!

James Ward-Prowse (68’) | 2 1

67’

Ward-Prowse to take...

Come on, Prowsey!

67’

VAR Decision: Penalty awarded for Southampton [Armando Broja] was confirmed

He's given it!

66’

Broja claims a penalty

The striker gets in front of Dawson, who desperately lunges in to rescue the situation. He wins the ball, but only after contact with the Albanian... the referee is checking the monitor now!

Antonio levels things up

It's a scruffy goal but West Ham won't care. Caballero drops a corner inside his six-yard box and Antonio forces it home from close range.

59’

GOAL

Michail Antonio (59’) | 1 1

58’

Southampton substitution: Tino Livramento replaces Kyle Walker-Peters

Third change of the game for Saints and we're yet to reach the hour mark.

57’

Zouma heads over

The defender climbs highest to meet the resulting corner, but heads over in front of Caballero.

57’

Bowen's shot blocked

A left-wing corner is cleared only as far as the Hammers' top scorer, whose first-time shot is deflected behind for a corner.

55’

Perraud clears crucially

Saints might have been exposed as Antonio plays the ball into the area, but Perraud is alert to clear in front of Bowen - then does so again moments later.

53’

West Ham United substitution: Saïd Benrahma replaces Tomas Soucek

The stricken Soucek is sacrificed.

53’

Ward-Prowse goes close

The skipper tries his luck from 25 yards, and claims Areola helped it on its way wide, but a goal kick is awarded. Decent effort down to the keeper's right.

50’

Soucek in some pain

The midfielder was caught by a trailing arm from Diallo, but there was no intent and no foul is awarded. Soucek is bleeding and the game is halted.

46’

We're back under way

The second half is up and running...

HT

Southampton substitution: Armando Broja replaces Shane Long

Broja comes into the attack for the second half.

HT

Southampton substitution: Stuart Armstrong replaces Moussa Djenepo

It's a double change for Saints at the interval.

HALF TIME: Southampton 1-0 West Ham

It's a half-time lead for Saints, though West Ham have had their moments and looked threatening on the attack. Saints have not created an avalanche of chances, but Romain Perraud's 30-yard stunner separates the sides at the interval.

+1’

2️⃣ added minutes...

We're into first-half stoppage time, as Long wins a free-kick to use up some valuable time before the interval.

43’

Antonio's shot is blocked

That was a moment of alarm for Saints, as Djenepo loses possession and Rice drives forward. He finds Antonio, whose shot loops into the air via centre-back pairing Valery and Stephens, and it's an easy save for Caballero.

40’

Saints spurn chance of a second

Adam Armstrong drives into the box and has Smallbone to his right, but the pass does not reach the youngster, and Armstrong will be wishing he went for goal himself.

36’

Johnson shoots wide

Perhaps this full-back optimism is catching on, because West Ham's Johnson is next to go for goal from distance, but Caballero has it covered and the ball bounces into the side-netting.

GOALSCORER 15 Romain Perraud

WHAT A STRIKE!

Wow! The ball is played square by Walker-Peters to fellow full-back Perraud, who tries his luck with a 30-yard shot that flies past Areola and into the top corner like an arrow!

30’

GOOOAL!!!

Romain Perraud (30’) | 1 0

29’

Soucek's shot blocked

Saints feel to clear the ball from their own box, but thankfully Soucek's shot is blocked as the Hammers continue to threaten.

27’

Armstrong shoots over

Smallbone swivels and delivers a low cross from the right, but Adam Armstrong gets underneath the ball and sends his shot high over the bar. In fairness to the striker, it did bounce up awkwardly in front of him.

23’

Great tracking back from Djenepo

Fornals spreads the play with a fine pass to pick out Johnson on the right, but Perraud holds him up and Djenepo gets a foot in to diffuse the attack before the flying full-back can pull the trigger.

20’

Long receiving treatment

The Irishman landed awkwardly after an aerial collision with Zouma, prompting both sides to have a touchline debrief.

18’

Bowen heads wide

Another opportunity for the Hammers, as Antonio stands up a cross from the left, but Bowen cannot quite climb high enough to direct his header on target.

18’

Caballero reacts well

That was a tricky moment for the 40-year-old keeper, who does well to claw out an inswinging corner from Fornals that landed in a crowded six-yard box.

16’

Saints coming into the game

West Ham have started well, but Saints are just showing signs of settling into the contest. Djenepo is unlucky when his cross deflects back on to his hand as the Hammers are let off with a free-kick.

10’

Soucek goes close

That was a big chance for the visitors, as Fornals tiptoes into the area before the ball is cut back for Soucek, but he side-foots his shot past Caballero's left-hand post from 12 yards.

4’

Careless from Djenepo

Adam Armstrong leads a quick counter-attack with a smart turn on the halfway line, but Djenepo's switch of play to Walker-Peters is overhit and Saints lose momentum.

2’

Brilliant last-ditch tackle from Stephens

Bowen looked to have raced in behind the Saints defence, but Stephens gets back to make a crucial interception in the opening exchanges.

the cup competitions have been important for us as a team to stay committed. this is mostly the reason why i very often gave other players a chance to play, to show their importance to us. that helped us massively for keeping the atmosphere good in this team with a bigger squad."
