A valiant effort from the hosts, but Southampton's Emirates FA Cup campaign comes to a close at the quarter-final stage. Finely poised at the break after Aymeric Laporte's own goal cancelled out Raheem Sterling's opener, a Kevin De Bruyne penalty put City back in front before Phil Foden and Riyad Mahrez put the tie beyond Ralph Hasenhüttl's side.

It's a quick-fire double from Guardiola's side, as Gündogan lays the ball off to Mahrez on the right-hand side of the box, who coolly picks out the bottom corner.

As with Sterling's opener, City find the net again moments after a big Southampton chance. This time, substitute Foden collects Salisu's headed clearance before rifling an unstoppable drive into the corner of the net.

The hosts won't get a better chance today! Ward-Prowse opens up the pitch with a stunning switch to Elyounoussi, who immediately crosses for Adams in the middle, but his sweeping shot from 12 yards is saved by a sprawling Steffen.

More pressing from Southampton sees Ward-Prowse nip in ahead of Rodri to win the ball, with the captain's strike from range forcing Steffen down low to his right to gather the ball.

Southampton have made a great start to the second half, carrying the momentum of their equaliser just before the break.
De Bruyne shoots over
Collecting Sterling's pass, De Bruyne goes for goal from range but his effort flies over the crossbar.
Armstrong released in behind again
Ward-Prowse intercepts De Bruyne's pass and instantly flights a ball over the top for Adam Armstrong to race onto, and after cutting inside of Walker, the striker's deflected strike wins a corner.
Saints stand firm
A moment of panic for the hosts as Cancelo's outside of the boot delivery causes a scramble in the box, but Stephens is perfectly placed to block De Bruyne's effort and Salisu eventually clears the danger.
The high press almost pays off
Saints win back possession when Steffen is rushed into his clearance, eventually ending with Adam Armstrong trying his luck from 20 yards, with the striker's low drive finishing up wide of the target.
The second half begins!
We're back up and running at St Mary's with the tie still firmly in the balance.

And breathe! Saints deserve to be level at the halfway stage and they are. The hosts responded well to Raheem Sterling's opener after 12 minutes and produced a string of chances, before Laporte's own goal restored parity. With 45 minutes left to go, it's still all to play for.

It's fortuitous for he hosts, but they won't mind! Elyounoussi's cross into the box is turned into his own net by Laporte and we're back on level terms!

This is a good end to the half from the hosts. Livramento's cross into the box from the right finds Long, but the striker is only able to direct his header comfortably wide of the target.
Romeu tests Steffen
Prowsey's corner is only cleared as far as Romeu at the back post, but his venomous low drive is straight at Steffen who collapses on the ball to thwart the danger.
Saints turn up the heat
It's a good spell for Saints, as Livramento's whipped cross only narrowly evades Long and Elyounouussi in the middle, before Walker-Peters has his shot deflected out for a corner.
City stand firm
Rodri gets his head to Ward-Prowse's free-kick delivery, with the visitors then breaking away and winning a corner.
Chance for a Ward-Prowse delivery
A jinking run from Stuart Armstrong is ended by a foul from Cancelo, giving Ward-Prowse an opportunity to swing in a dangerous delivery from wide on the right.
Rodri goes close
City catch Saints on the break and the ball falls nicely for Rodri to hit from distance, but his low drive takes a deflection on its way through and flashes just wide of Forster's far post.

The Ghanaian is fine to continue, as he returns to the field.
Salisu needs some treatment 🤕
The defender towers over Grealish to win a header but falls awkwardly to the floor, with Mike Dean stopping play to allow for treatment.
Gündogan hits the woodwork!
Cancelo does well to work space for a cross and fizzes the ball into City's captain, but his volley from close range comes back off the post.
A chance for Arma
The chances keep falling to Adam Armstrong, as the striker collects a pass from his strike partner Shane Long just inside the box, but with the ball bouncing he slices his strike well wide of the target.
Saints look to use Armstrong's pace
Not for the first time this afternoon, the hosts look to release Adam Armstrong in behind the City defence, but Laporte is on hand on this occasion to deal with the danger.

City are continuing to threaten, as Jesus makes a yard of space on the edge of the box before blazing over the crossbar.
