FULL-TIME: Saints 1-0 Arsenal
Saints halt the holders!! It's Ralph Hasenhüttl's side that progress, going on to play Wolves in the fifth round.
Nketiah half chance
That could be the final opportunity of the game, he swivelled in the area, but slices his shot wide. Powerful effort but no direction.
Saints win a vital corner
Nlundulu was harrying up top, and could have played Armstrong in, had he spotted the run. The corner is valuable enough, but Arsenal win the ball back swiftly. They go on the attack.
3️⃣ minutes to be added...
Saints have roughly three minutes to hold on. Saka's ball into the area is nearly met by Lacazette, but he doesn't connect.
Penalty appeals...
Shane Long goes over under the pressure of Holding, he appeals for a penalty kick. Referee uninterested and points for a corner. Bizarre incident. Long adamant he was clipped.
Wayward
The shot does very little to trouble Forster, who is happy to watch the free-kick sail well over the bar.
Dangerous free-kick
Bertrand committed a foul on Pepe. The resulting free-kick is in a dangerous area. Forster setting up a two-man wall.
Ings strike saved
He controlled the shot exceptionally well, but it's a good save from Leno who had everything behind it.
Bertrand wins a free-kick
Deep in Arsenal territory, Bertrand wins a free-kick from Partey. Winding the clock down now, as we enter the final 10 minutes. A second goal would probably kill the tie...
Off the line...
Prowsey hooked the ball off the line - reading the danger perfectly. Some intricate passing from Arsenal yielded the chance. The flag goes up consequently and danger averted, for now.
Saints tested defensivley
Arsenal with much more creativity on the pitch now. Ings and Walcott having to drop deep and help out.
Game opens up
Arsenal have upped the tempo, and as a result, Saints are playing on the counter-attack. Looks like there's more goals to come in this game, hard to call who for. Arsenal with a corner.
Lacazette readying himself
The frenchman is due to come on, with Bellerin retreating. Certainly an attacking change from Mikel Arteta.
Arsenal threatening
The changes are paying off for the visitors, who now look much more of a threat going forward. Saka involved plenty. Pepe wins a free-kick on the left, caught by Walcott.
Big save, Fras!
Arsenal work the chance well, with Saka and Pepe involved. Nketiah took the shot on early, a toe poke effort, but Forster saved with his foot. Great goalkeeping.
Keep going, lads 👊
Arsenal working their way back into this tie, still plenty of time left. Saints need another goal to make things a little more comfortable. Walcott is in charge of the latest effort on goal, teed up by Ings, but it bobbled and flew over.
Nketiah denied by Bednarek
Good interchange between Pepe and the striker, but Bednarek is well positioned. The resulting corner is directed over by Rob Holding, who got two bites at the cherry but no purchase.
Hey, boss 👋
The manager on the sidelines at St Mary's this afternoon.
ENERGY 🔋
This guy has been everywhere today, driving Saints forward. Will there be any reward for him in this game?
Saints swarm
Really positive play from the home side once again, plenty of drive and energy. Committing men forward in every attack. The ball drops to Prowsey on the edge, but he can't keep his shot down.
SOOOOO CLOSE 😧
Ings latches onto Forster's long punt, works the angle for the shot and then rattles the post. The ball ricocheted off Leno and went behind. Consequently, the flag goes up. But that was close!
Lovely ball
Great looking ball into the corridor of uncertainty from the captain, with willing runners, but Leno comes to claim with authority. He's been very dominant around his six-yard area all afternoon.
We're back...
Let's go, Saints! More of the same please...
HALF-TIME: Saints 1-0 Arsenal
The hosts take their lead in to the break, and good value for it. A really energetic first 45 minutes of football.
Dangerous Prowsey
Another set-piece for the master. The angle was against him, but he goes for goal nonetheless. Miles wide of the mark, in terms of his usual quality. Worth a try!
The moment that matters
KWP turns the ball home through a crowd of players (kinda) 😇
High press
Again Saints' pressing work pays dividends. Arsenal dallied with the ball on the edge of their own area, with Adams lurking. He pinched the ball and tried to work it to Ings, but Holding recovered.
Smiles all round 😄
Saints continue to dominate, but Stephens has just been forced into a good block from Pepe's shot. A flash of bright play from Arsenal.
All Saints 👊
Leno gives the ball away, thanks to the intensity of Saints' press. It drops to Ings, but he can't work space for the shot. Armstrong takes it on instead, winning a corner, which Ings meets but can't judge the header.
KWP x JWP 🔥
Prowsey congratulates the goalscorer! Although it may go down as an own goal, it was the full-back's shot that earned the opener!
Saints pressing for a second
Bellerin blocks a ferocious effort from Danny Ings on the volley, diverting behind for a corner. The home side looking to make another dent in the scoreline. Bertrand shoots from distance, but it flies over.
KWP CLAIMS IT...
The shot takes a deflection off Gabriel (it may well go down as an OG), but nevertheless Kyle Walker-Peters wheels away in celebration as his shot eventually finds the net, via Gabriel's boot.
GOOOAL!!!
Kyle Walker-Peters (24’) | 1 – 0
Ings 🔗 Adams
Saints' front two flying forwards on numerous occasions, linking well. Looks like there will be opportunities for both to get on the scoresheet today...
Theo in the mood
Walcott came deep in the build up, then linked with Ings on the edge of the Arsenal box. He took the shot on from distance, but it was wayward. Bright play, nonetheless.
Chance for Martinelli
He's run from deep, avoiding the offside trap from a free-kick routine, but snatched at the finish. Really good chance for Arsenal to claim the opener, but finish wasn't good enough. Forster claims.
Adams on the prowl
Excellent play from Adams, who breezed past Gabriel. Played it around the defender, doing all the hard work to put himself in a great shooting position, but Leno denies. Smart save low to his right.
Bright spells from both sides
Both teams enjoying positive passages of play, without really penetrating. The latest attack for Arsenal resulted in an effort from Cedric, who blasted over from the edge of the area. Was in plenty of space, perhaps should have done better.
Sneaky skipper 👀
That would have been some goal from Prowsey, had his corner snuck under the bar. Positive start from Saints, who are gaining plenty of joy in wide areas - Bertrand looking bright down the left.
Audacious from Prowsey
He's feathered the ball towards the goal directly from a corner, with Leno off his line. It nearly took the Arsenal stopper by surprise, but he scrambled back in time to divert over. Quick thinking from the skipper! 😅
Bertrand delivers
It's an excellent ball from the left, in search of Ings and Adams centrally. Cedric diverts behind for a corner. Good movement in the box from Ings, winning another corner which hits the bar!
Free-kick in a promising position
Ward-Prowse over the dead ball, which was whipped into a dangerous area but Leno claims. Commanding goalkeeping.
We're off at St Mary's 😇
Saints going full strength, while Arsenal fielding a blend of youth and experience. Should be a good one!
