Key moments so far
- Danny Ings converts from the penalty spot to give Saints the lead
- HALF-TIME: Brighton 1-1 Southampton
- Jannik Vestergaard equalises, meeting a Ward-Prowse corner.
- Brighton take the lead through a Pascal Gross penalty.
FULL-TIME: Brighton 1-2 Southampton
Danny Ings has the final say as Saints come from behind to seal all three points at Amex Stadium. It's Ings's sixth of the season and the perfect way for Saints' talisman to reintroduce himself following a short spell on the sidelines.
21.53Strong from McCarthy
Trossard flicks a header goalward but it's well held by McCarthy, who clears the danger.
Running the clock down ⏰
Saints attempting to run the clock down now.
Yellow Card for Yves Bissouma (Brighton & Hove Albion)
For a foul on Ward-Prowse.
DISPATCHED ✅
This guy...
Maupay swivels and shoots
It's a distance away in the end, but the effort had McCarthy scrambling.
INGS FROM THE SPOT
VAR goes in favour of Saints, as Walker-Peters goes down and wins the penalty. It's converted expertly by Ings - was it ever in doubt?
GOOOAL!!!
Danny Ings (81’) | 1 – 2
Yellow Card for Pascal Groß (Brighton & Hove Albion)
VAR Decision: Penalty awarded for Southampton [] was confirmed
VAR award Saints a penalty!
Possible penalty...
VAR continue to check this, to decipher whether the foul was inside the box or not. Referee gave a free-kick, but it's being repeatedly looked at.
Walker-Peters bundled over
March bundles into the back of Walker-Peters on the edge of the area, VAR is checking this...
Beautiful play from Ings
Tight, intricate play from both Redmond and Ings yields a chance for the former, who takes it on the volley but steers it wide. Really good opportunity squandered!
Brief sight for Ings
Armstrong lept well to keep the ball alive, as it fell to Ings in the box. It was bouncing and awkward, before being nipped away.
March off target
Well found by Maupay, as March opens his body up for the shot but misjudges it. Effort was way off target in the end, but the Frenhcman has made a difference since coming on.
Gross scoops over
Good break from the hosts, with Lamptey breaking forward. Gross gets an opportunity to fire at goal but rather miscued his finish. Let off for Saints.
Pressure mounting
Saints applying a bit of pressure here. Ings not been overly involved yet. Ward-Prowse corner is punched by Ryan before Armstrong delivered from the opposite side, which Ings met but no joy.
Marginally wide
Ings fires it into Walcott, who cut inside onto his favoured right boot and fired millimetres wide of the mark.
Can this man make an impact on his return?
🤞🤞🤞
Yellow Card for Lewis Dunk (Brighton & Hove Albion)
For a late challenge on Adams.
Bednarek and Welbeck clash
Fortunately neither are hurt, but it was a meaty challenge from Saints' defender!
McCarthy caught in no-man's land
Luckily neither Gross nor Lamptey could make anything of the chance, but poor decision making from the Saints stopper there.
Yellow Card for Oriol Romeu (Southampton)
Gives away a free-kick in a dangerous position.
Walcott moves wide
The loanee is now operating from the left, as Ings is deployed down the middle. He's on five goals for the season, so far...
THUNDEROUS ⚡️
The admiration from both Ché and Oriol here 😅
Celebrations for the equaliser 🙌
Towering header 👊
Proud to be supporting rainbow laces 🌈
This is everyone's game!
HALF-TIME: Brighton 1-1 Southampton
Saints have drawn themselves level on the stroke of half-time, which will make for an exciting second period! The master of dead balls - James Ward-Prowse - put it on a plate for Vestergaard to head home after Gross's opener.
WHAT A HEADER!
That is a sensational finish from the Dane - his third Premier League goal of the season. An unstoppable header from yet another pinpoint Ward-Prowse delivery.
GOOOAL!!!
Jannik Vestergaard (45’) | 1 – 1
Quality delivering from Bertrand
It's a searching ball from the left, asking questions of Brighton's defensive capabilities. It goes for a corner which Ward-Prowse duly delivers...
Walcott attempt wide
Shot from Walcott was tame. He'd edged his way into the Brighton box, with defenders retreating but effort was wayward.
Promising
Saints building a sustained period of possession here. It ends in a chance for Walker-Peters to cross, having been fed the ball by Ward-Prowse but it's crowded out. Better football from the visitors.
Brilliant from Bednarek
Excellent defending from the Pole, who this week signed a new deal, keeping him at the club until 2025.
Brighton continue to threaten
Lovely cushioned touch from Welbeck in the box, teeing up Gross who smashes over on the volley. The chance came at him quickly but it was more than presentable.
Lamptey breaks
The pace of Lamptey is causing Saints all sorts of problems. Brighton break from the back, but Ward-Prowse is back on defensive duty. Connolly was making the surge into the box but the ball didn't get there.
From the spot
Saints are penalised. Gross dispatches from a penalty kick, sending Alex McCarthy the wrong way. The hosts lead.
GOAL
Pascal Groß (26’) | 1 – 0

Appeals for a handballl
Referee points to the spot. It's James Ward-Prowse who is penalised for a raised arm, it's unintentional but the penalty stands. Gross to take the spot-kick...
Bright from Walker-Peters
The full-back motors forward, taking on multiple players before releasing Walcott, or at least attempting to. Offside flag was swiftly raised. Bit naive from Saints.
Moussa vs Lamptey
An interesting battle materialising down the left flank between these two. Keep an eye out!
Bissouma surges forward
He links well with Welbeck, before winning a corner off Djenepo - who needn't have given one away. Ward-Prowse clears at the near post but at the expense of another corner - this time McCarthy claims.
Contrasting starts to the season...
Seven points separate the sides before the start of play. Saints have the chance to go fifth if they can capitalise on tonight's opportunity. Fairly slow start to the game.
Yellow Card for Moussa Djenepo (Southampton)
For a foul on Lamptey.
Dunk heads over
He makes the run from deep, evading the offside trap and meets the cross, but heads way over. Got too much contact on the ball.
A man in form 📸
Ché Adams in action at Amex Stadium,
Flag raised
Brighton were in behind the Saints backline temporarily, inviting a brilliant recovery tackle from Jan Bednarek - the flag went up eventually, but the 'Polish Maldini' wasn't to know that.
Welbeck shot well held
The striker found a bit of space in the Saints box, directing his effort well enough, attempting a first-time finish. Alex McCarthy was equal to it and Saints have the ball back.
First glimpse of action 😍
Moussa Djenepo is the first Saints player to try an effort on goal. The visitors looking to make a quick start.
Ready for kick-off 👊
Feeling positive, Saints? We're seconds away from action now. #COYR ❤️

09.16🤍 G A M E D A Y ❤️
It's matchday on the south coast! Not a derby, but a local rivalry of sorts! Saints travel to Amex Stadium having been successful on their last three visits to Brighton, including last season where Moussa Djenepo scored a stunner to seal the first win of 2019/20. Brighton secured a point against Liverpool last time out, and will be feeling equally as confident ahead of tonight's 8pm kick-off!
