FULL TIME: Southampton 1-4 Chelsea

That's it. Southampton fall to defeat at St Mary's as Chelsea head back to the capital with all three points.

Batshuayi makes it four

Pulisic slips the ball in for Batshuayi who confidently slots the ball under Gunn.

Chelsea seeing out the game

The visitors are happy with their afternoon's work and are doing a good job at seeing the game out here at St Mary's, keeping the Saints at arm's length.

Final 15 👊

If there's to be a dramatic comeback, it needs to happen soon as the clock continues to run down.

72’

Southampton substitution: Michael Obafemi replaces Shane Long

A first change of the day for Saints and it's a like-for-like swap as Obafemi replaces Long.

70’

Obafemi inbound

Saints are readying their first change and it looks like Obafemi will be the man to come on as he takes final instructions on the touchline.

67’

Almost an opening for Ings

Tomori does just enough to stop Ings latching onto Redmond's long ball, otherwise the striker was clean through on goal.

64’

Changes imminent? 🤔

Adams, Boufal and Obafemi are all sent to warm-up by Ralph Hasenhüttl. Can one of Saints's subs provide the inspiration to get back into this one?

61’

Abraham calls Gunn into action

The Chelsea striker has the chance to fire at goal from the edge of the box, but his zipped effort is too close to Gunn who is comfortably down to his left to collect.

59’

Ward-Prowse off target

If Ward-Prowse could pick a spot to have a free-kick, it's this one. Centre of the goal and just over 20 yards out, but the strike clears the wall and goal altogether.

📸 A quiet spell

Since Hudson-Odoi's chance the game has lost some of its earlier high tempo.

49’

Gunn saves the day

Willian's piercing run ends with a ball into Hudson-Odi, but the winger's shot from a slight angle inside the box is brilliantly saved by the foot of Gunn.

HALF TIME: Southampton 1-3 Chelsea

That's the end of a frantic opening 45 minutes at St Mary's. Despite a bright start from Ralph Hasenhüttl's side, Chelsea stormed into a 2-0 lead thanks to Abraham and Mount strikes. Ings hit back for the hosts before Kante's deflected effort completed the first-half scoring.

+1’

Ings goes close!

The striker almost has a second! Tomori is careless in possession and the Saints number nine looks to capitalise, but his goal-bound shot is cleared by Jorginho who was covering for the beaten Kepa.

Deflection restores two-goal lead

It's tough on the Saints. Kante's shot from the edge of the box takes a big deflection off of Højbjerg which leaves Gunn wrong footed and unable to stop the ball nestling in the back of the net.

📸 Game. On.

Danny Ings reels away after stabbing home Valery's cross, although there's some debate whether the final touch came off of Chelsea's Zouma.

33’

Redmond goes close again!

Roared on by the St Mary's crowd, the hosts almost level it up as Redmond blazes into the side netting from an acute angle.

GOALSCORER 9 Danny Ings

BACK IN IT!

Game on! Saints needed some inspiration and it comes from Valery - the right-back surges into the box after starting out on the touchline and squares for Ings who prods past Kepa from a few yards out.

30’

GOOOAL!!!

Danny Ings (30’) | 1 2

29’

Something of a let off

The hosts surrender possession cheaply once again but Mount's sweeping effort from 12 yards is dragged wide after a square ball from Abraham.

27’

Chelsea push for a third...

Goals change games, and despite initially starting brightly Saints are now on the back foot as Mount blazes a yard or two over the bar from the edge of the box.

Mount makes it two

Chelsea win possession high up the pitch and after a quick piece of interchange, Willian slides the ball in to Mount who emphatically fires past Gunn from close range.

Mason Mount (24’) | 0 2

Goal-line technology hands Chelsea the opener

Hudson-Odoi lobs a hopeful looking ball over the top of the Saints defence, but despite Yoshida and Gunn both being in close proximity, Abraham gets to the ball first and his lobbed strike is confirmed as crossing the line despite Yoshida's acrobatic clearance.

📸 A bright start

Saints have settled into an early rhythm at St Mary's, with Redmond's first minute strike the closest we've come to an opening goal.

12’

Yellow Card for Jorge Luiz Frello Filho (Chelsea)

An early yellow card for Chelsea midfielder Jorginho who scythes down Long as he looks to break along the touchline.

11’

Chelsea register their first shot

The visitors create their first chance as the ball is worked into a shooting position for Abraham in a central position on the edge of the box, but his low shot is comfortable for Gunn to claim.

7’

Højbjerg fires over

All the attacking continues to come from the home side. Ward-Prowse's corner is headed out as far as Højbjerg, but the captain's strike from distance flies over the bar.

1’

Almost the dream start!

Saints are on the front foot immediately and Redmond's dipping strike from 20 yards flies inches over the bar!

We're under way at St Mary's!

Chelsea get the game started and we're under way. Come on you Saints!

Longy gives us a new strength, with good deep runs and high speed. yan must be brave today. it's a good challenge against a good player, but i know he can compete.
