VAR Decision: Goal awarded for Leicester City [Jonny Evans] was cancelled

Heartbreak for Saints 💔

Maddison's free-kick is headed home by Evans, but is he offside? VAR will look at this...

89’

GOAL

Jonny Evans (89’) | 2 2

86’

Iheanacho denied!

McCarthy is called upon again, as he makes himself big to push away Iheanacho's poked finish.

84’

Gray goes close

Almost a quick reply from the hosts as Gray cuts inside and shoots, but McCarthy clears away with his legs.

83’

So close to three!

Leicester are caught on the break and it's two on one for the visitors, but when Ings collects Redmond's pass his shot is brilliantly tipped around the post by Schmeichel.

GOALSCORER 9 Danny Ings

HE'S DONE IT AGAIN!

He's been denied on several occasions this afternoon, but he finally gets the better of Schmeichel. Adams's through ball is perfectly collected by the Saints number nine, who notches his 16th of the season!

80’

GOOOAL!!!

Top support 👏

The boys in grey and yellow are being superbly backed by over 1,000 travelling supporters in the East Midlands.

72’

Yellow Card for Pierre-Emile Højbjerg (Southampton)

The Saints captain chops down Gray on the right and goes into the referee's book for a cynical foul.

71’

Saints remain on the offensive

Hasenhüttl's side continue to charge forward in search of a second, but it somehow remains 1-1 for now.

64’

VAR Decision: Penalty awarded for Southampton [Shane Long] was cancelled

But wait, the dreaded VAR lines are brought out to check if Long was offside in the build-up and after some delay, the penalty is overruled and Söyüncü's yellow card is also revoked. No penalty and play continues.

67’

Leicester City substitution: Demarai Gray replaces Ayoze Pérez Gutiérrez

A second swap of the day for the hosts as Gray comes on for Pérez.

66’

Offside denies Leicester again!

For the second time this afternoon, Leicester are denied by the offside flag as Iheanacho bundles home from close range - but from an offside position.

63’

PENALTY SAINTS!

Armstrong plays Long through and goal but before he can shoot he's bundled over by Söyüncü and Lee Mason wastes no time in pointing to the spot!

61’

Armstrong spurns the chance for a second

Good build-up from Saints sees Redmond play the ball into the path of Armstrong on the edge of the box, but he slices his shot high and wide.

59’

An injury delay

Play is stopped for a few minutes as Long receives some treatment for a wrist injury, but the Irishman looks okay to continue.

57’

Leicester City substitution: Kelechi Iheanacho replaces Harvey Barnes

A first change of the afternoon for the hosts as Iheanacho - fresh from scoring in the Carabao Cup in midweek - replaces Barnes.

Not Ings's day (so far)...

2️⃣ great Schmeichel saves

2️⃣ attempts off the crossbar

53’

Evans denied by McCarthy ❌

Evans's header from a Maddison corner is well palmed away by McCarthy.

51’

Leicester look to get going

With some support from the home crowd, the hosts are starting to enjoy some territory as they win their first corner of the match.

47’

Off the line! 😱

Saints continue their assault on the Leicester goal immediately. Schmeichel completely misses Bertrand's wide free-kick delivery forcing Stephens to react and turn and effort on goal, but Söyüncü is perfectly placed to clear away from his own goal line.

45’

Back under way!

James Maddison gets this second half up and running.

HALF TIME: Leicester City 1-1 Southampton

Saints have been fantastic in the first half and will feel they should be ahead at the break. The hosts took the lead with their only meaningful attempt on goal of the half through Praet, but were quickly pegged back by Armstrong. The rest of the opening 45 minutes was dominated by Southampton, with Ings twice hitting the woodwork.

43’

Ings off the bar! AGAIN!

How has the Saints man not got a goal in this opening 45 minutes? The ball falls to Ings in the box and he instinctively swivels and fires a rasping effort at goal, but it cannons back off the crossbar with Schmeichel left well beaten.

42’

Ings off the bar! 😫

Armstrong's low cross from the right is a delicious one to the front post where Ings is placed, but his delicate attempted shot comes back off the crossbar!

41’

Outfoxed Foxes

So far, the hosts haven't been able to get going in this one, with Southampton's relentless press keeping the hosts at arm's length.

37’

Long goes for goal

Saints work the ball nicely again and Long has possession on the left-hand side of the box, but despite having four in the box he goes for goal which is a simple save for Schmeichel.

35’

Blocked by the wall

Ward-Prowse of course goes for goal, but it cannons off the wall and away from danger.

34’

A free-kick in Ward-Prowse territory

Redmond is chopped down by Choudhury just outside the D of the box. Ward-Prowse is over the ball...

31’

Vardy ruled out by the offside flag

Højbjerg's attempted pass is blocked and it falls perfectly into the path of Vardy who races through and scores, but he was stood in an offside position and the 'goal' is correctly chalked off.

28’

Højbjerg forces another save!

The visitors have Leicester on the back foot at the moment, as Højbjerg's dipping strike from range has to be clawed away by Schmeichel, who's been by far the busier of the two keepers so far.

From Stu, with love 😘

The Saints midfielder opens his account for the campaign.

25’

Ings heads wide

Saints are flying forward at the moment, with Bertrand's ball to the front post glanced behind by Ings, although the last touch looked like it might have come off of Jonny Evans.

GOALSCORER 17 Stuart Armstrong

WHAT A RESPONSE!!

Long's ball to the back post finds Armstrong, who cuts onto his left foot and fires a strike that nestles into the back of the net courtesy of a big deflection off of Maddison that leaves Schmeichel with no chance. GET IN THERE!! 🙌

18’

GOOOAL!!!

Stuart Armstrong (18’) | 1 1

18’

Barnes with a tame effort

Leicester are moving the ball around confidently, with Barnes looking to curl a strike into the far corner following a sweeping move. The shot is tame, though, and an easy one for McCarthy to collect.

15’

Yellow Card for Stuart Armstrong (Southampton)

The Scotsman goes into the book for a foul on Chilwell as he galloped forward.

Praet breaks the deadlock

It's Leicester's first shot on goal, but it's emphatically taken. Pérez's ball over the top sets Vardy in on the left, and his pinpoint ball to the back post is ideal for Praet to fire home his first Foxes goal.

13’

GOAL

Dennis Praet (13’) | 1 0

11’

Chances at a premium

We're past the 10-minute mark and Southampton are the only side to have registered an attempt on goal, with Ings's big chance being saved by Schmeichel. The hosts are yet to get in behind the visitors.

7’

HUGE chance for Ings! 😱

The Saints striker latches onto a loose ball and bundles his way past Söyüncü to leave himself one-on-one with Schmeichel, but the Dane stands tall to keep out Ings's effort, with the rebound also saved. A BIG chance goes begging...

5’

Barnes the early outlet

Plenty of Leicester's early play is coming down the left, needing Barnes to be closely monitored by Cédric and Armstrong.

3’

Early Saints possession

It's a bright start from the visitors, who enjoy some good early territory and possession, with everyone getting an early touch.
