Saints pegged back despite Gabbiadini brace

Two second-half goals from the Italian were enough to earn Saints a point at St Mary's. Good fightback from the lads, but not enough for victory.

After a lively second half, Saints were forced to accept a share of the spoils, with Manolo Gabbiadini twice drawing level.

Ryan Bertrand and Nathan Redmond link well, before the ball is worked to Dusan Tadic in the technical area. Eventual shot is deflected for a corner, which comes to nothing.

Yoshida upended

The centre-half goes down briefly, holding his back. But is now on his feet, no need for medical attention.

Long shot blocked

Saints with a man over, as Shane Long attempts to get his side back on level pegging. Newcastle defend well, and hold on to their narrow lead.

Yoshida delivers

Maya Yoshida in unfamiliar territory, whips a cross in to the six yard area. Shane Long is arriving, but can't connect. Shelvey eventually clears.

Redmond Saints' danger man

Saints trail to an Isaac Hayden goal, but Nathan Redmond has looked to create down the left, and has been our biggest threat in the opening quarter.

van Dijk heads wide

Saints are straight down the other end, trying to atone for conceding an early lead. Redmond delivers a corner, met by Virgil van Dijk, who heads agonisingly wide.

Tadic heads over

Saints on the attack once more. Redmond stands the ball up at the back post, where it is met by Tadic. The Serb heads over, but had a clear sight of goal. 

Redmond the outlet

Oriol Romeu finds Redmond on the left, who is a constant option, but perhaps lacks support. Ball is worked well to Dusan Tadic, but the shot is fired disappointingly over. 

Cedric on the move

Cedric links well with Dusan Tadic, but the move breaks down. Saints pressing well, and most of the play is in their attacking half.

Floated ball in from the left by Nathan Redmond, two Saints shirts in the box. Delivery is well cleared, but the intent is clear early on.
