Forster thwarts Wijnaldum
There will be no fifth successive clean sheet against Liverpool for the Southampton keeper, but Fraser Forster was in the right place to make this first-half save from Georginio Wijnaldum.

Saints looked solid for the first half-hour, but Liverpool punished a sloppy piece of play to take the lead through Mo Salah after 31 minutes. Full of confidence, the in-form Egyptian added his second just before the interval. It's a long way back from here.

It's Saints' best moment of the game, as Bertrand lines up a 30-yard free kick. He gets tremendous pace and whip, but it flies inches wide of goal.

It's a long way back for Saints now. Coutinho's piercing through ball unlocks the defence and Salah latches on to it with a cool finish beyond the onrushing Forster.

A typical burst forward from Cédric results in a swirling cross that causes problems for Mignolet, as the Liverpool keeper punches unconvincingly to safety.

Tadić is caught in possession on the edge of his own box and Saints are punished, as Salah curls in a delicious shot from the edge of the box to leave Forster no chance.

Saints have not offered much by way of an attacking threat, but Liverpool have struggled to get in behind a well-organised defence and found themselves restricted to speculative shots from distance.
Coutinho tries his luck again
This time it's a free kick from which Coutinho tries his luck, but the Brazilian is a long way out - at least 30 yards - and Forster is not troubled by an ambitious attempt that sails over.

First real glimpse of Coutinho, who drives forward from deep and lets fly from 25 yards, but he drags his shot wide of the post.
Forster saves from Wijnaldum
Mané tees up Wijnaldum to shoot from 20 yards. It's curling away from Forster towards the far corner, but the keeper is there in plenty of time to parry the ball well clear of danger.
Crucial tackle from Cédric
Mané shows his pace in trying to latch on to a long ball over the top, but Cédric tracks his man all the way and defends diligently to keep Liverpool at bay.
Salah goes close again
It's a second chance in quick succession for the in-form Egyptian winger, who this time meets a cross from ex-Saint Mané, but cannot connect cleanly on the volley.

Alexander-Arnold bundles his way into the box only to be thwarted by Forster, before Salah's shot is deflected wide on the rebound.
