Former clubs: Newcastle, Coventry (loan), Barnsley (loan), Bolton (loan), Blackburn
Striker Adam Armstrong arrived at Southampton from Blackburn Rovers in August 2021, shortly before the start of the new Premier League season.
A prolific scorer with his former club, the Newcastle-born forward was integral to the Rovers attack, racking up 49 goals in 130 appearances for the Lancashire side.
It was hometown Newcastle United that was his first club, though, joining them at just nine-years-old and working his way through the academy before making his professional debut as an 86th minute substitute for Luuk de Jong in a Premier League clash with Fulham in March 2014.
The following year saw the start of a series of loan spells for Armstrong, his first being an electric season at Coventry City, where he scored five times in his first five games for the club, ultimately being named in the PFA Team of the Year for League One, after totalling 20 goals in 40 matches for the Midlands outfit.
Armstrong then enjoyed a few more loan spells, at Barnsley and Bolton, before finding a more permanent role at Blackburn in 2018.
He played a pivotal role in the team’s development, helping them secure promotion to the EFL Championship at the first time of asking, before scoring 29 goals in 43 appearances during the 2020/21 season, which unsurprisingly led to him being named the Championship’s PFA Player of the Year.
Capped five times at England Under-21 level, Armstrong was also part of the Under-20 side that lifted the 2017 World Cup, making four appearances in the tournament, having previously been in the Young Lions squad that won the 2014 UEFA European Under-17 Championship.
