Wright signs new deal and secures loan move
Southampton goalkeeper Ollie Wright has signed a new three-year contact with the club and will join Sky Bet League Two side Gillingham on loan for the 2026/27 season.
The 23-year-old goalkeeper, who joined the club's Academy at Under-10s level, has penned a new deal which will see him extend his stay to 14 years.
He will continue his development by spending the season at Gillingham.
"I'm over the moon, been here a long time now" said Wright, "I can't really put it into words, I'm just really excited to get going again and it's a really proud moment for me."
Having enjoyed beneficial loan moves at Bath City, Worthing, Yeovil Town and Solihull Moors, the keeper spent the 2025/26 campaign at League Two Accrington Stanley.
He made 47 appearances at Wham Stadium, winning the Players' Player and Manager's Player of the Season awards for his first spell in the football league.
"[Last season] was my first loan in the Football League, I managed to get my opportunity and I took it and played over 40 games. I thought I did really well and it was a really good time there for me.
"I've definitely matured a lot, and it's helped me so much going on the loan journeys I have done."
The club wishes Ollie well for his spell at MEMS Priestfield Stadium and looks forward to monitoring his progress.
