THE MATCH

Durham vs Saints

Barclays Women’s Championship

Maiden Castle Sports Park

Sunday 17th December, Midday

For ticket details, see below

The final Barclays Women’s Championship action for Saints in 2023 comes in the form of a long trip to Durham Women.

Marieanne Spacey-Cale’s side come into the fixture off the back of a South Coast derby win against Portsmouth which saw them secure their place in the Fourth Round of the competition - another long trip to Sunderland now confirmed.

Jemma Purfield came to her side’s rescue after Pompey were able to equalise late in the first half. A scrappy performance for Saints, but a win, and momentum secured.

Durham were in action midweek in the FA Women’s Continental League Cup, travelling to Women’s Super League side Aston Villa. The hosts were on top of their game, scoring five, with just a late consolation for Durham, scored by Amy Andrews in the 87th minute.

Sitting seventh in the league, Durham will be eager to put three points on the board to keep themselves in touching distance of the top half.

MANAGER’S NOTES

“After Sunday, there were a few things to tweak on the training field this week. We got the result, but the performance was off what we know our best is.

“We’re well aware of the threat that Durham pose. They’re a physical, experienced side who’ve been in this lead a long time, so we need to be ready for that.

“With this being our last game of 2023, it’s important to finish on a high and take some momentum into the new year. I know the girls will be really up for it.”
