Saints' opening game of the 2022/23 season was certainly not short of entertainment, as they hosted Aston Villa at the training ground on Saturday 13th August.

Tommy-Lee Higgs opened the scoring for Mikey Harris' side inside ten minutes, before Kobei Moore equalised just over 20 minutes later.

Villa took the lead shortly before the break through Kyrie Pierre, before Rylee Wright levelled the scores again, only for Pierre to notch another after 54 minutes to put his side back in front.

Neither team would come away with maximum points, however, thanks to Will Merry's equaliser with four minutes to play.

West Ham had a similarly goal-laden opener, Callum Marshall scoring a hat-trick as they came away from Crystal Palace with a 3-2 victory.

During their successful 2021/22 campaign, Saints were unbeaten against the Hammers.

The last clash between the two teams was a tight affair, neither side being able to be separated at Staplewood in mid-March in what panned out to be Saints' only 0-0 of the entire season.

Saints fared better in the return fixture, coming away from Little Heath Sports Centre with a 3-1 win thanks to goals from Tyler Dibling, Jem Hewlett and Dom Ballard.
