Spotlighting: Premier League Aspire
Saints Aspire was developed, in partnership with the Southampton FC Fans Advisory Board, to support girls aged 11-16 who have experienced disadvantage to develop their leadership skills and boost their future aspirations, whilst helping to build a more gender-balanced fan base for Southampton FC.
Earlier this year, we held an International Women’s Day event for our PL Aspire cohort. Before this event, when surveyed 1 in 5 participants said they didn’t have a positive role model in their life.
After the event, 15 of the participants said they found positive role models from the event with 8 naming one of our Southampton FC Women’s team and 7 referencing our Saints Foundation staff and volunteers, as people that they found particularly inspirational.
Since the Premier League Aspire International Women’s Day event, participants who attended have; Taken part in our Premier League Kicks tournament as the only girls team, volunteered as referees at our PL Primary Stars Play on the Pitch tournament, and have been planning a multisport event with sports they want the chance to try.
This project was funded through the Premier League Fans Fund, and created in partnership with the Southampton FC Fans Advisory Board.
