Saints royalty set for Isle of Wight legends match

A team of Southampton legends are heading to the Isle of Wight for a charity football match sure to stir up plenty of nostalgia among Saints fans, raising vital funds for Newport (IOW) FC and Cowes Sports.

Saints royalty Rickie Lambert and James Beattie are included in the provisional squad, along with the recently-retired Shane Long, while the likes of Glenn Cockerill, Matt Oakley, Jo Tessem, Andrew Surman, Danny Fox, Nicky Banger and goalkeeper Maik Taylor are also set to be involved.

The Isle of Wight legends line-up will include former Premier League defender and current Birmingham manager Gary Rowett, who attended Cowes High School, along with a number of well-known island footballers from the past 30 years.

The game takes place at Westwood Park, Cowes, on Saturday 18th May (kick-off 1pm BST), the day after Saints’ play-off semi-final second leg at home to West Brom.
