Martin to utilise squad depth

Manager Russell Martin will look to utilise his squad’s depth as Southampton prepare for their second match of three in the space of a week.

Having returned from Huddersfield with a point on Saturday, Saints will now host Bristol City on Wednesday and Cardiff at the weekend, prompting potential changes to the starting eleven.

“There will probably be some changes tomorrow night out of necessity because we’re trying to manage people through a really busy period of games between now and January, which is ridiculous.

“It’s about trying to manage them and also try and manage the squad in the best way possible to keep everyone motivated, interested, hungry because we really trust every player that we have here.

“It’s not like when we take one player out and we put one in, it shouldn’t weaken us in any way really, sometimes maybe a bit, sometimes maybe a lot, but it shouldn’t because of the quality of player we have here.

“When players are in rhythm and playing good minutes it’s a nice place to be in but the last three game weeks we had I think every player has been used, whether someone has had 10, or 15 minutes, everyone has been on the pitch at some point and I probably don’t see this one being much different.”
