Loan Watch: Tella off the mark for Burnley

Nathan Tella scored his first goals for Burnley on Saturday, as the Southampton loanee struck a first-half brace in the Clarets’ thrilling 3-3 draw with Blackpool.

Starting on the left side of a three-pronged attack, Tella’s first came from a run in behind the defence and a cool finish into the bottom corner.

That goal gave Burnley a 2-0 lead inside 11 minutes at Turf Moor, while his second, a curling shot into the top corner from 15 yards via a slight deflection, took the scoring to 3-1 after Blackpool had pulled one back.

Ultimately Tella will be disappointed his brace did not earn three points, as the Tangerines struck twice in the last 20 minutes in a Lancashire derby that finished 10-a-side.

Elsewhere, Dan Nlundulu was the match-winner as his 56th-minute goal proved to be the difference for Cheltenham at Exeter in League One.

It was the Robins’ first victory of the season, coming against the same opponents who beat them 7-0 in the first round of the Carabao Cup 11 days prior.

The hosts introduced Kegs Chaulke as a second-half substitute, but were unable to find an equaliser at St James’ Park.

There were contrasting fortunes for Will Smallbone and Kazeem Olaigbe, who were also involved in 1-0 scorelines.

In the Championhip, Smallbone’s Stoke were beaten by Sunderland, while Ross County registered their first win of the Scottish Premiership season, though Olaigbe was substituted shortly before Owura Edwards’s late winner against Kilmarnock.

There was a late cameo off the bench for Thierry Small in Port Vale’s 2-0 success at Burton, while Jack Bycroft helped Taunton secure their first ever victory in the National League South, 2-1 over Dartford.
