Debut goalscorer Cyle Larin reflected on his match-winning contribution in Southampton's 1-0 win over Watford at St Mary's Stadium.

Introduced off the bench in the 67th minute, Larin made an instant impact as he connected with James Bree's corner to power home a diving header in the 70th minute and break the deadlock against the Hornets.

The result moved Saints to four games unbeaten in the Championship, with back-to-back clean sheets in the process after last week's win over Stoke City.

Reflecting on his dream St Mary's start, Larin admitted: "I don't know how I imagined it.

"You put in the work during the week, and the staff and players have been helping me get used to how it is here, so I think all of that helped me out a lot and it just made me more comfortable on the pitch.

"When I came on I saw a lot of space on the pitch, and I think set pieces are very important in football. I know the guys can cross the ball and put a great ball in, so I just beat my defender and put my head through the ball and I scored."

"It means a lot for any striker," the Canadian added when asked about the rousing, welcoming support from the home crowd that followed his goal.

"It means a lot to have that confidence from the fans and it keeps you going and believing in yourself. I've dealt with a lot of fans in my career, but I appreciate the support from the fans and I'll keep going.

"To get a goal on your debut like this, it's special for me. I think it might have been my first, if I can remember, but it's special to have the support from the fans.

"You just need to keep going as a team and for me that's more important, to keep going and because next week's another game, and no one remembers what you did last week."
