Harwood-Bellis: It’s the mentality and it’s working
Taylor Harwood-Bellis praised Southampton’s maturity and mentality after they came from behind to beat Derby County 2-1 and extend their unbeaten run to 17 matches.
Saints were forced to do things the hard way at St Mary's, but Harwood-Bellis felt the composure shown throughout the contest reflected the belief within the squad.
“I'm really happy to keep the run going. We’ve got to put it to bed now and on to Tuesday.”
Asked about the confidence in the dressing room, the defender insisted the squad remain level-headed despite their impressive run of form.
“You actually wouldn’t know it’s a 17 game unbeaten run just by how level-headed everyone is,” he said.
“We're kind of like 'it’s done now, great, onto the next one' is the mentality and it’s working. You have to be like that, and any successful team I’ve been part of, it’s been the same.”
Harwood-Bellis also got on the scoresheet himself, converting from close range after another dangerous delivery from the flank.
“[Ryan Manning] has obviously put a great ball in,” he said of the assist.
“You can see it from this season, he’s got loads of assists. I saw it coming, and luckily, I headed it in!”
The defender also praised the supporters, who continued to back the team even after Derby’s opener.
“They’ve just got better and better throughout the season but I think that's done to us to go and win games and put in good performances and results to cheer about."
“It's a credit to them and a credit to us as well.”
