Downes charged with violent conduct
Flynn Downes will be unavailable for Southampton’s next three matches following an incident in the Sky Bet Championship fixture at Swansea on Saturday.
A statement from The FA said: “The midfielder’s actions around the 23rd minute wasn’t seen by the match officials, but was caught on video, and it was subsequently alleged that this constitutes violent conduct.
“Flynn Downes admitted the charge against him and accepted the standard three-match penalty.”
Downes will miss the Emirates FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City at Wembley, as well as the two remaining league games of Saints’ regular season against Ipswich and Preston.
