Back amongst the goals, Finn Azaz labelled Saints’ 2-0 win over Stoke as a “mature” performance.

The Republic of Ireland international opened the scoring after 10 minutes to end a run of 10 games without a goal.

Fellow midfielder Flynn Downes secured the three points after the break to move Saints three unbeaten and leave Azaz buoyed by recent form.

“Yeah, [it was a] really mature performance from everyone. Obviously good to get a clean sheet. It’s not an easy place to come, they’re a good side, so credit to all the boys, credit to the game plan as well, we executed it really well.

“Momentum is obviously huge. Really disappointed that we didn’t go and beat Pompey so yeah, this win is really important after that and let’s go and build some momentum now.”

Back amongst the goals, Azaz had no doubts his goal scoring touch would return as he secured an eighth of the season.

“Great ball from Tay [Harwood-Bellis]. Credit goes to Tom [Fellows] really, I think I made a run forward and then the ball got put through so I was kind of already there but nice to score a goal like that.

“I’ve been around a while now so don’t get too disheartened by any droughts, just keep working on myself, keep trying to stay consistent and always have confidence I’ll score goals and get assists, I have no doubts about it.”
