Archer pleased to break Premier League duck
Cameron Archer has spoken about his personally “important” first Premier League goal for Saints in the 3-1 defeat at Arsenal on Saturday.
The striker opened the scoring at the Emirates to open his league account, having already netted twice in the Carabao Cup.
Despite the Gunners completing a comeback against Russell Martin’s side, Archer is pleased to be off the mark in the league.
“Very important for myself. I knew the goal would come eventually, I just had to keep my head down and knew it would come.
“I want to be the one to score goals, make the difference and help the team.”
Now heading into the international break, Saints will face fellow promoted outfit Leicester next time out, as well as Everton and Wolves following a trip to reigning champions Manchester City.
With big games to come against teams towards the bottom of the table, Archer knows their importance.
“I think it's games we can be excited about, winnable games. We can just work hard in the break now, work on the things we can improve on and just keep going.”
