Russell Martin gave an update on Ché Adams' fitness ahead of the SkyBet Championship play-off semi-final first leg on Sunday.

Adams was forced off on the final day of the regular season against Leeds United, but Martin added a sense of reassurance that it was just a "precaution" for his striker.

"More precaution than anything, we have to manage him through this week a little bit," Saints' manager explained.

"We'll still manage him through the next couple of days, then hopefully he'll be ready to impact us on the pitch on Sunday."

The trip to Elland Road also saw the long-awaited return of Ross Stewart, who was introduced in the closing stages after his lengthy time on the sidelines.

"This week has been great [for Ross Stewart]," Martin assessed, "he looks really good, he's ready to play and impact us more and have more minutes for sure over the next couple of games."

"It's been a really important week for Ross to get on the pitch, he played really well when he came on [at Leeds].

"To train how he has done, he looks in great shape so it's just match minutes that he lacks, not training time - he's constantly prodding, he wants to play and impact us and I'm pretty sure over the next couple of games he'll have a big impact.

"Whatever the shape, whoever plays, the team needs to look the same as it has done for so much of this season, and go there with the same mentality as we always have."
