U18 Preview: Reading vs Saints

It’s a return to Under-18s Premier League action for Saints’ youngsters, as they make the trip to Reading on Saturday morning.

Following disappointment in the Premier League Cup last time out to Swansea, Saints will welcome the return of league action this weekend as another opportunity to see that crucial development take place.

The defeat to Swansea preceeded a tough game against an in form Leicester City, who came away from Staplewood with a 3-2 win after a strong first-half Saints performance.

Goals from Jayden Smith and Jack Turner set Southampton's youngsters up nicely in their last league outing, before the Foxes responded with a second-half comeback.

Reading's under-18s sit just above Saints in Premier League (south), two points better off after an impressive away win at Aston Villa last time out.

The young Royals came from behind through goals from Claudio Osorio and Pedro Neves ten minutes from time. 

A win for either side would see them leapfrog Arsenal's under 18s into eighth in the division, with an opportunity for consistency certainly an incentive for each team going into Saturday's fixture.
