Jaïdi: We didn't take our chances

Radhi Jaïdi was disappointed that his side could not make the most of their first-half chances after Southampton Under-23s were held to a 1-1 draw by Stoke at Staplewood.

Saints bossed the early exchanges of the Premier League Cup opener, with Alex Jankewitz and Dan N’Lundulu both going close.

N’Lundulu did break the deadlock early in the second half, but Jake Dunwoody’s equaliser ten minutes later earned a point for the visitors.

“We feel a little bit of disappointment, playing at home against pretty decent opposition but with a lot of opportunities to kill the game and score goals,” Jaïdi said.

“We had two really good opportunities in the first half and missed them, so that’s the feeling at the moment in the changing room.

“I thought the first half was the best of the halves, where we controlled the game, imposed ourselves and played a lot of really good football – seeing a lot of what we had worked on through the week.

“In the second half, we conceded the goal from our cross and some of the runs and recoveries from the boys lacked urgency. We need that mentality to go and defend the goal.”
