The thoughts of Ralph Hasenhüttl as he met the press ahead of Sunday's Premier League meeting with Chelsea at St Mary's.

On team news...

"(Cédric) really tried to ply against Tottenham but it was maybe not the best idea. It will take until the Wolverhampton game next for him. He has a calf injury.

"Ché (Adams) played every game until the last game form the beginning and 90 minutes against Portsmouth and I wanted to give him a rest. He showed this week that he is in better condition and mentally clear and is an option for Sunday.

"Moussa (Djenepo) is very difficult to say when he can play again. It’s a high risk at the moment. He can do everything with running, passing the ball or sprinting, but when he shoots the ball we must pay attention because the tendon injury is something that can get worse. I would like him back as soon as possible and maybe after the international break it is a chance for him to train with the team.

"The rest are available. Alex McCarthy had a few problems with his calf injury after Portsmouth, but this is better now."

On Danny Ings's form...

"I think he really lives what we are asking for. That means attacking them early, and he has scored two times in the Premier League from winning balls from the goalkeeper. In pre-season we had another game where we scored early from pressing.

"He makes us work well when the team is following him and it’s not easy to build up against us. He tries to stay onside and this is very important for our game."

On producing a winning performance...

"At home we haven’t won so far, but we've not had the easiest schedule with Liverpool, Manchester United and Bournemouth, which was our biggest chance.

"Every game is very difficult in the Premier League and on Sunday we have a strong opponent, but often we have shown our best performance against the strong teams. We need a good spirit, a good mentality and to fight from the first minute."

On Chelsea...

"I know what our record is against Chelsea and they're a very strong team. It’s a team that is young, hungry, committed and with a good spirit, so if you want to get something you really have to come very close to the highest level you can perform and this is what we have to do for 90 minutes or longer.

"This is the goal for Sunday. It’s a team that is very high quality in every position, with a lot of young players in the team, and I think it’s not a coincidence that they've won the last three games - also in the Champions League - so they are in good shape."

On dealing with Chelsea's quality...

"Our game is not really focused on man-to-man marking as we are trying to be ball oriented. Against big teams, that is more important because the individual quality is maybe higher than other teams.

"We try to work and defend together. If we do this and are committed, then we showed in the first fixtures we can compare with the big teams. To win is not impossible if you concentrate for 90 minutes."

On utilising set-pieces...

"I think we've had a few chances this season so far, and in the last game for Maya (Yoshida) as well who is always very close to scoring. I'm really hoping that Maya gets the first one.

"With Prowsey (James Ward-Prowse), we have a fantastic man who can bring the ball perfectly in the centre. We were a little unlucky, but we must be convinced we can decide games on set-pieces and this is something we are working on."

On defensive shape...

"I was disappointed (against Tottenham) because we had high numbers of players behind the ball and they had strikers in front of the ball. It was not brave and we want to defend on the front foot and I was a bit angry.

"(Harry) Kane is strong and everybody knows this. It was a big chance but it’s gone and we must learn from it."
