Women's preview: Swindon Town vs Saints

By SFC Media Sat 07 Sep Womens Team

Southampton FC Women travel to Swindon Town this weekend in the FA Women’s National League as they look to continue their unbeaten start to the campaign.

Resounding victories against Chesham and Brislington came either side of a 6-0 League Cup success against Ipswich Town, before a 0-0 home draw with Southampton Women’s FC on Wednesday night.

Despite their dominance on the night, Head Coach Marieanne Spacey-Cale was pleased with how her side stood up to the challenge against one of the title favourites.

“The one thing we talked about was being clinical in the final third and whether that’s with a finish or a pass, it’s that little bit of craft you need to create the opportunity. Then it’s about having that clear head and thinking to take one or two touches.

“That was our fourth game of the season and they are things that you keep growing and developing the more you play and the more you train.

We'll be ready for the challenge but we'll also be ready to meet our objectives and how we want to play.

“We weren’t disappointed by the result on Wednesday night and I have to say the support and the crowd was phenomenal. Over 550 were at the game on an evening and they were fantastic so thank you to everyone that supported us.

“Swindon is another first as we’ve never played them before. They’ll be another tough challenge because they’re an experienced team so we’ll go in there and give them that respect.

“They maybe haven’t started the season as they’ve wanted to but at some point every team hits a bit of form and that could happen on Sunday so we’ve got to be at the top of our game and put our game plan into action.

“We’ll be ready for the challenge but we’ll also be ready to meet our objectives and how we want to play.”
