Radhi Jaïdi's youngsters got their new Premier League 2 Division One campaign off to the best possible start with a dramatic comeback win over Manchester City.
Saints were behind more than once during the tie, but fought back to claim a 4-3 victory, scoring three goals in eight second-half minutes.
The pick of the bunch, netted by Dan N'Lundulu, arrived in the 93rd minute and pleased their coach greatly, with Jaïdi praising his side's quality, as well as their togetherness.
"Overall it was a great performance," the Under-23s boss began.
"We didn't start particularly well, we were a little shy, let me say. We let them have the play and there are younger boys in this group who are still understanding their roles and responsibilities.
"But the boys showed a lot of character and resilience to come back from being two goals behind twice. The goals we scored were of good quality; collective and individual quality.
"Very good reactions. They showed their potential today. Again, this group of players are showing their togetherness. There is stuff to work on, but I'm pleased with how we played today."
